The 2010 Georgia Elks Championship Hoop Shoot contest was successful in spite of snow.
Pictured below with Elroy, the mascot for the Elks Drug Awareness Program, are the six Georgia Hoop Shoot Champions for 2009-2010.
They will travel to Valdosta, Georgia March 19-20 for the Southeast Reginal Contest. There they will compete against the state champions from Florida, Alabama, Mississsippi and South Carolina.

2009 Georgia Hoop Shoot Report

The 2009 Georgia Elks Hoop Shoot has been completed for this year and I am happy to report we had excellent participation from around the state and many great athletes compete. The Georgia State Hoop Shoot was held on February 21, 2009 at Newton County High School in Covington, Georgia with the Awards Banquet hosted once again by the Covington Elks Lodge. The 1st Place winners at the state contest were:

The winners of the special prize for the highest score in the contest were Hannah Wilson for the girls with a score of 22 and Christopher Smoak-Brown for the boys with a score of 22. The prizes were autographed basketballs courtesy of the Atlanta Dream Women's Basketball Team.

This group of six fine young athletes moved on to the SE Regional Elks Hoop Shoot held on March 21, 2009 in Valdosta, Georgia with the Valdosta Lodge acting as the host Lodge. It was a very tight competition with 30 great athletes participating from the states of Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina and Georgia. This year Florida had two athletes winning 1st Place and the rest of the states each had one 1st Place winner, so all of the states participating in the regional contest will be represented at the national finals. Georgia brought home a total of 4 trophies one of which was 1st Place -SE Regional Champion for 8-9 Girls, won by Kezyah Holliman, sponsored by the Augusta Lodge. Plans have been made for Kezyah Holliman and her parents to travel to Springfield, Massachusetts for the Elks National Hoop Shoot final competition on April 25, 2009. I plan to be there to cheer for Kezyah, and I will be reporting the results of this final contest very soon.

Please note: Plans are underway for our Georgia State Hoop Shoot winners to perform a shoot off during intermission at the Atlanta Dream home game at Philips arena in August 1, 2009. This is an opportunity for our Georgia Elks to turn out for a great evening of basketball, fellowship and fun. More details and ticket prices will be posted on our webpage about this event during the summer.
